Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of Dr Samina Mahmud, Dr Despina Demopoulos (SAPA President) and the Local Organising Committee, it is with great pleasure and excitement that we invite you to the South African Paediatric Association (SAPA) Congress 2025, set to take place in the beautiful city of Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) from 5th to the 7th September 2025.

Umntu Ngumntu Ngabantu – A person is a person through other people.

The theme for the congress, “Ubuntu – It Takes a Village to Raise a Child,” is a profound reflection of our collective mission as health professionals dedicated to the care and well-being of children. Ubuntu, a concept rooted in African philosophy, emphasizes the interconnectedness of all people and underscores the importance of community and mutual support. As paediatricians, nurses, therapists, and allied health professionals, we know that it truly takes a village to ensure the holistic development of every child.

This congress promises to be a remarkable gathering, bringing together leading experts, researchers, and practitioners in paediatrics from across South Africa and beyond. Our program is designed to inspire, educate, and facilitate meaningful exchanges of ideas and best practices. You can look forward to an array of keynote presentations, interactive workshops, and panel discussions that will cover advancements in paediatric medicine, innovative approaches to child healthcare, and strategies for addressing the unique challenges we face in our communities. Sessions include the impact of climate change on child health, approaches to the neurodiversity paradigm, guidelines on managing vulnerable populations and chronic care as well as the latest insights in paediatric infectious diseases.

We express our gratitude to our sponsors and partners, whose generous support makes this congress possible.

We are on the cusp of an inspiring and transformative congress, and we are confident that each of us will leave Gqeberha with renewed passion and commitment to our shared goal of nurturing the health and potential of every child.

Thank you for being a part of this important journey. We look forward to meeting you all and sharing in the rich experiences that the SAPA Congress 2025 has to offer.

Warmest regards,
Dr Despina Demopoulos
